Situated on two campuses in a delightful small town just 35 minutes west of downtown Denver, MSE takes full advantage of its spectacular mountain setting. Its robust wilderness program begins in the primary years and culminates in the 8th grade with a challenging summit of Grays Peak (elevation 14,278 feet). In keeping with the Montessori commitment to experiential learning, the MSE experience also includes myriad opportunities to engage with the local and global communities through travel, service learning, and mentorship/internship programs.

The past decade has been a period of remarkable progress for MSE, including the transition from proprietary ownership to not-for-profit status in 2005. Since then, Head of School Beth Heller and the Board of Trustees have led the school to a successful dual accreditation with the Association of Colorado Independent Schools and the American Montessori Society, steady increase in enrollment, the addition of the Toddler and full-day Primary programs, and the completion of a successful capital campaign that led to the construction of a multipurpose gym and theater facility.
