Duluth, MN 55805

http://www.manyriversmontessori.org/employment

Respond to: Jennifer Lien, Trustee: human.resources@manyriversmontessori.org,

Description of Position
The Opportunity: Here is the opportunity to help grow a new school, to craft a truly exceptional
learning environment, to collaborate with passionate teachers and parents in a supportive
environment.

Future Growth: Although much has been accomplished at MRM, there is still much to be done. The
current building is a red stone school built in the late 1800s. There are beautiful learning spaces
indoors and out. Although this is a beautiful location and space, the Many Rivers community will
quickly outgrow this space in the next 3-5 years. The Head of School will work with the Board of
Trustees to explore expansion options as well as drive school operations and community relations
excellence.

Formulas for Success: A successful Many Rivers Montessori Head of School will sustain our vision
through a strong and guiding belief in children; grow the school through entrepreneurial leadership;
nurture the school’s open, respectful, and caring culture; champion Montessori education within the
Twin Ports region; and oversee the operations of an organization that is truly run well and utilizes best
practices.

Qualifications (Minimum and Preferred)
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have worked in an early stage school, having managed
growth while nurturing a teacher and family community. Montessori experience would be nice, but is
not necessary. Experience with capital campaigns, school building development, and communicating
and driving a vision are sought. Other qualities include strong communications skills with all
stakeholders, a demonstration of managing an engaged and motivated teacher community, and a
can-do, get-it-done spirit.

Description of Community
The School: Many Rivers Montessori School opened its doors on September 3rd, 2014 on Duluth’s
hillside. The school attracted 77 students, ages 16 months to 6th grade, who started that first day.
MRM is an inspiring community of students, teachers, and families coming together to grow
generations of students who can change the world. The foundation of this philosophy is the
100-year-old Montessori method, which undergirds everything we do.

Our Mission: Many Rivers Montessori is a learning environment that fosters independent,
academically prepared, and socially responsible citizens who will be lifelong learners and problem
solvers. We provide an ideal learning environment that focuses on the whole child during each stage
of development from toddlerhood through adolescence — the benefits of which last a lifetime.

Our City: The Many Rivers Board of Trustees is as proud of our city as we are our mission. Duluth is a
nationally recognized outdoor recreation hub and cultural center. Boasting hundreds of miles of
hiking, skiing, and biking trails all with spectacular vistas of Lake Superior, three alpine ski hills and a
lifetime worth of water sports from paddling to sailing, Duluth’s quality of life is vast. Additionally,
Duluth is the home of world-class cultural and academic institutions like the Minnesota Ballet, Duluth
Superior Symphony Orchestra, Duluth Playhouse, Homegrown Music Festival, Bayfront Bluesfest,
University of Minnesota-Duluth, College of St. Scholastica, and Lake Superior College.
