Elementary (6 to 12 years)

The integrated Elementary curriculum responds to the child’s developing imagination and intense desire for knowledge by providing a framework for exploration of nature, the world and the Universe. MECR students study instructional strategies and materials that facilitate children’s individualized educational pursuits in these areas. Our students also learn to use Montessori materials that support children’s development of language and math concepts and skills, and develop instructional strategies for applying math and language skills throughout other curricular areas.
Elementary I: 6-9 years This course lays the foundation for working with elementary children in a Montessori environment, placing the academic emphasis on lessons and practices appropriate to children ages 6-9.
Elementary II: 9-12 years This course is a continuation of the Elementary I level, extending the EI credential to an EI-II credential. It requires a second summer of academic coursework, with a focus on children ages 9 – 12 years. Montessori teachers who already hold a 6-9 credential are encouraged to apply.
Elementary I-II: 6-12 years The EI and EI-II components may be taken contiguously with the practicum year most commonly completed during the school year between the two summer academic sessions.
